Mei Li.
Mei Li is not invited to go to the New Year Fair in the city, but she has plans of her own. She bribes her brother into taking her along, and spends a wonderful day of adventure. Set in midcentury China, with what is probably a realistic portrait of an independent girl child of the time. The author/illustrator was a prominent artist who worked in China in the 30's.
