Just picked up a similar copy
Just picked up a similar copy this past weekend at a book sale: first edition, London, 1947, with jacket (which is a bit torn, but intact and quite colorful). Illustration on back of jacket shows wooden doll in front of a tree with three purple birds in branches, caption: "She liked to think of the tree of whose wood she was made." Beautiful illustrations inside.
Nice find! If you click on
Nice find! If you click on our photos you can see a larger version and you can just make out "She liked to think of the tree....." I like these illustrations, too
