During the German occupation, Kubasta worked for a puppet theater under Cenek Sovak. This little hedgehog boy, Jezek Pichacek, was one of the puppets. Subsequently, Sovak and Kubasta created several books about Jezek Pichacek. Many coloured pictures throughout the text. In this Jezek has adventures with an elegantly dressed cat-like creature, and eventually returns home. See also the earlier book, signed by Sovak, Jezek Pichacek mezi Zviratky. Rare.
Scenes in the life of the crow society, by a Swiss painter, filled with imaginative detail.
A serious cow on the cover: Mostly about Guernsey and Holstein cows, with some sheep and goats. Pictures are from the turn of the century, not in World Cat and scarce.
Wonderful artwork. These are six line poems by the Bulgarian writer, poet, and critic Dora Gabe, (1886 - 1983). Each poem is illustrated with a rural domestic child scene, two children chat with a ladybug, a boy picks flowers in the woods, a mother plays pat-a-cake with her baby, a family gathers proudly around the pumpkin they have grown. The Jezek Pichacek books are among Kubasta's earliest work for children, see our listing above for JP mezi Lidmi. This book is signed by the writer and director of the puppet theater: Loutkova scena v dome Komenskeho, a reference to Comenius. The story tells of Jezek's early years and is full of wonderful coloured animal paintings in text. SIGNED AND BRIEFLY INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR, 1950; (darkened for legibility in jpg) Rare. The shape kittens on the covers have nice expressions and huge eyes, and they are very prettily dressed. The kittens in the rambling stories have shed their clothes. Quite an unusual little piece. Note: This book has been sold.
