Muriel H. Fellows (1902-1984) earned her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania (Petrographs of the New World) in 1936 and began to write books for children on the subjects she knew well. This book, though a little stilted, is kindly and full of information,  with many appealing and accurate illustrations.
