Victoria, at 12, on first hearing of her possible succession: "After some moments, the princess resumed, 'Now many a child would boast, but they don't know the difficulty. There is much splendor, but there is more responsibility.' " Interesting.

CONDITION: Good Plus; "Jubilee Day, 1887" owner inscription front endpaper, tiny paler water spots on lower front, shadow of adjacent book on back, extrems quite bumped, spine faded but legible, fore edge foxed, feps darkening, pages flat and clean. Item #14830
