Lovely, misty, full coloured plates with fine engraving, early colour lithography, and handcoloured orange and green touches, all by the same artist. The middle volume of a popular trilogy published in English as Leila... in the mid nineteenth century. The first book, a Robinsonade, caught popular imagination and all books in the trilogy were reprinted soon after in French and Dutch, then republished later in English.
CONDITION: Poor; MISSING 2 sheets, 4 pages of text, 151 to 154; otherwise Good Minus, small owner name, slanted, bumps to extrems, gilt bright on board and clear on spine, spine seems to have been repaired, front hinge starting or repaired, plates with substantial pale foxing, pages darkening.
