Boston: Lothrop Publishing Company, (1897) ; red cloth spine, chromolithograph of two children laying out coloured chalks with a large slateboard hanging behind, the children and tables and chairs are outlined in gilt, on the back a little child rides a huge Newfoundland accompanied by his big sister; good quality paper, the first section entitled Slate Pictures for Little Folks with Pencils has two slates on each of 18 pages with simple funny pictures to copy; also, a six page section at the back entitled Child-Life at the Farm, Children and Children's Pets; 8x10. Picture Book Hardback.

These simple little pictures give a fresh perspective on child-life at the end of the century. As typical of Lothrop publications, this is well produced. Not common, one library holding on Worldcat.

CONDITION: Good; child's gift inscription on ffep; very soiled boards worn through on corners and somewhat on edges, including a fine pen line on the older girl's face; tiny hole in spine cloth but no fraying, quite a lot of margin soil from young artists but the pictures are not drawn on, endpapers discoloured from glue, including last picture.
