The Rubber-oons being Number 2 of The Gobbly Wobblyn Series. (Rubberoon, Rubberoons)

Erie Pennsylvania, The Gobbly-Wobblyn Publishing Company, [song co. 1925]; red cloth binding with full cover plate in black, pale blue, white, and red, with the red King Balloon-atic, dancing in front of the castle; the apparent title reads "The Gobbly Wobblyn," with the actual title in a small blue panel; front endpapers show a parade of round people carrying a banner "to the Land of the Rubberoons", rear endpapers have pages 2 and 3 of the words and score for "Let Us Sing" by "Pill Dickle"; black and white drawings throughout, with a center section of an exact copy of the Art Catalogue presented to visitors of the Rubbo Museum containing explanatory notes, each full colour plate backed by a blue drawing; large 8vo; 288 pp. Juvenile hardback.

In the Royal Toor-a-lee airship, Johnny and Doll visit the Kingdom of the Rubber people who all look somewhat like the Michelin man. The second in the short series following the Gobbly Wobblyns. Lots of adventure, fun, and puns in this early OZ genre fantasy. You might say there are mild racial stereotypes but all the characters are pretty ridiculous looking! There were clubs, secret handshakes and even Rubber-oon toys of this series, all marketed by the author.

CONDITION: Good Plus; young child's name neatly penciled in "From the Library..." ; pale moisture-lightening and flecks on red back, tiny chips on edges; 1/2" pull tear on lightly rubbed and soiled front plate with chipped corner, book has been professionally recased this year using original spine and endpapers, the repair join only visible on rear hinge; lightly foxed bottom edge; light soil and bottom margin damage, including tiny holes to first three and last 2 pages, otherwise interior is very bright, unwrinkled and clean. A very pleasant volume, well restored. Item #20414
