New York: David McKay Company, Inc., 1955/1952 1st US printing, in red boards with white titles and thick pasted-on plate of George the kitten crawling along the wall, "Blackberry Farm Books" appearing on top, author, title, publisher on spine, plain endpapers, bright illustrations facing every page, last page with picture and text about the Farm; in thick robin's egg blue jacket with die-cut square exposing the plate, and dark blue titles, author/title/publisher on spine,plain flaps, description of the series, listed through "Naughty George" on the back as well as price (95¢). 5x5.5"; np. Small hardback.

George does a lot of naughty things, but with the best intentions, so at the end he is forgiven. Very bright clear colours, almost like pochoir. The UK Brockhampton series began in 1949 with Emily the Goat. The McKay US reprints are not in the same order. Following the first six Blackberry Farm books with green boards published in 1954 were two sets of three titles each with red boards published in 1955, (dates, from library records in Worldcat , may have appeared on later printings) Naughty George is one of the first set of three. As of this writing, we have eleven in jacket, ask.

CONDITION: Very Good in Good Plus jacket; no names or other marks, straight, clean, nice paste-on plate, but with 3/8 x 2" moisture spot along top of back jacket which has darkened board but has not affected endpapers or pages, with endpapers and some pages a bit toned, jacket has half inch closed tear at each upper corner of "window", darkened spine, light wear to extremities; 0.95 price.
