Small hardback.

A particularly pleasant, non doctrinaire, version of the beginning story book of the latter part of the 19th century with interesting little one page stories, most with illustration above and all with facing full page illustrations. Two stories feature Neptune, a big black dog, who appears to be a Newfoundland. "Dogs can be taught almost anything.... Surely we should be careful not to hurt the feelings of such clever friends as dogs." Hard to find.

CONDITION: Fair because of one wide separation in center of book with loose threads visible, otherwise very nice and tight, no names, clean boards only lightly rubbed at tips, stamping very crisp, plate only a little dull, endpapers and pages very clean and unwrinkled. Item #21515
