The Christmas Stocking.

New York: Charles E. Graham & Company, Holly Wreath Booklet Series #0902, n. d. (about 1895?). pale pink into blue covers with children hanging stockings within holly wreath on front and Santa in long coat with toys on back, blue border of birds above and ships below; tall 4.5 x 8.5"; np. Small hardback.

The children of the Hall, including a boisterous Baby, welcome cousins and Grandparents to Christmas. They shop in the village, pack hampers for the villagers, hang their stockings, and hope...."What can we do to make sure of being good enough?" wondered Elfie. "You can see who will be in bed first," said Nurse, who always took advantage of remarks of this kind...". Full of pictures by a British illustrator of the 1890's and actually a very funny Victorian large family story, which makes one wonder if it's an excerpt from a longer, earlier English book.
