Piazza, 19 Rue Bonaparte, printed Ducros et Colas, 20 Sept., 1930, limited edition No. 151 to 450, on smooth, heavy vellum, not numbered, pas numerotée; bound in elaborately blind-stamped green leather with gilt titles to spine and four bands, marbled endpapers in green and cream, front matter in this order: title page with Sophie and chicken, then half title, then another title page facing edition notice with Sophie and donkey, then dedication to Elizabeth Fresneau, then frontis of Sophie and Paul looking at a squirrel, then first page of La Poupée de Cire, etc; frontis and a half page illustration at the head of each story with some chapter tails, all coloured, pochoir?, 14x20mm,; flyleafs front and back, 244 pp including Table of Contents. French language 19thc hardback juvenile.

Sophie is such a modern little girl, these illustrations by an 30's artist fit her active imagination and the ever patient Paul perfectly.

CONDITION: Good Plus; no names or other marks, tightly bound, very clean, and perhaps unread, but the spine and board edges are very chipped to card, especially the spine head and foot and the top joint, all quite visible with dark green binding. Item #22084
