An affectionate brother and sister, with a very frightening picture of Gretel pushing the evil witch to her death. One of a beautiful series begun before World War One with the aim of bringing inexpensive work from Art Nouveau, or Jugendstil, fine artists to children. The series list grew and earlier volumes were republished with slightly different cover styles. The simplified cover of this edition and the more angular endpapers reflect the influence of Art Deco.(Dates from Klotz 2016 ).
