Lisboa, Lisbon; Livraria Sá da Costa, Editora, 1951/1942, 5th edition; ivory boards with blue spine and titles, delicate leaf border, circular illustration of boy and girl reading on blue checked table cloth with math materials laid out; illustrated endpapers; 17 x 22.5 cm; 144 pp. Portuguese language hardback.
A general book for primary classes, with a colourful, enthusiastic patriotic (Viva Salazar)/religious reading section that progresses from letters to short paragraphs in 50 pages, then about another 50 pages of short passages on religion and good behavior for children, then interesting and colourful pages (about 30) explaining concepts of number and simple operations with manipulatives, including one showing a child how to cut little discs of cork and store them in a box. Lovely top board. Original sticker from a bookstore in Macau.
CONDITION: Very Good; 1959 name in English, stamp and signature on the title page which may or not be from the ministry; this copy apparently was covered and taped including endpapers, resulting in foxing and tape stains on endpapers, but extremely clean spine and covers; clean, unwrinkled pages.
