Santa Claus' Store (Stern & Co)

Published [Philadelphia, J. Henry Smythe, Jr. Publishers; (1913)] for Stern & Company 706 to 714 Market St. (Philadelphia); on the front Tommy and Ruthie, the Thrift Twins, gaze at Santa Claus, on the back a poem and an ad for the Stern budget plan, 10 interior pages of the poem When Toyland Wakes!" ; 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" Toploader medium advertizint.

This booklet was produced for various department stores at Christmas, although others used the "When Toyland Wakes" first page as the cover. The publication data above comes from another identical copy. The uncredited artist, whose work resembles Palmer Cox, shows the toys having a wonderful time on Christmas Eve! A Grace Drayton Dollie Dingle doll, two Kewpie dolls, a period car, and a blimp, lots to look at.
On the back, is a little Stern Department Store poem
about the Thrift Twins who are using the Stern Budget Plan. "For Tommy and Ruthie decided to save,/to buy some poor children a gift. That is the reason they smile all day long. For permanent joy comes from THRIFT."

CONDITION: Near Fine; no names or other marks, without tears, bumps, creases, soil etc., just straight and very clean, a little rust showing on staples in interior gutter. An amazing example. Item #22631
