Galarza, the author of Barrio Boy, is well known for his research, writing, and activism on immigrant farm labor issues... He also wrote a series of 12 short books including Zoo-Risa, with his photos on every page. This series, Collección Mini-Libros, addressed the need of young Mexican American children for Spanish language reading and ties to home culture: poety, books on California and Mexico, and books on various agricultural industries, including labor issues.
