Pasting Without Paste: Mother Goose.

Akron, O (Ohio): The Saalfield Pub Co., 1939, "Paste without Paste" series, full colour illustrated card cover with instructions on the back; 4 pages facing pages of coloured stickers to cut out; oblong 10.75 x 8.5" Toploader large.

Sticker books, designed to replace the mess of wheat paste, bring back midcentury summer childhoods. It was not that easy to cut close to the outlines without nicking them! Though the books are common, few are in this condition. Here are Old King Cole, Little Boy Blue, Old Mother Hubbard and Hey Diddle Diddle, nice dogs. Activity book author/illustrators were often anonymous but this group by Martha E. Miller was attributed and well illustrated. As well as these books published from 1939 to the early 40's, Miller illustrated Saalfied reprints of the Bobbsey Twins and readers for Rand McNally and Lyons & Carnahan.

CONDITION: Fine; no names, uncut, miniscule rubs to spine tips, otherwise as new. Item #22724
