Mike and His Neighbors

Garden City, N.Y. Doubleday, Doran, & Company Junior Books, 1941/1941 co. Artists and Writers Guild, paper boards with wrap around illustration of the small town main street, with Mike surrounded by loving children, in jacket identical to boards, oblong 9.25. Juvenile Hardback.

Mike, a beautiful black and white Spaniel, lived with the Dobbs, a young couple who had no children. He loved everyone in his small community and made his daily rounds to collect petting and treats from his many friends. "He thought the teachers were playing a game when they chased him up and down the corridors. When they put him out of the Grade School, he went over to the High School... He didn't consider it a disgrace to spend the night in jail, and he liked to ride home with the police." So, when people began to get annoyed, what were Mr. and Mrs. Dobbs to do? Mrs. Dobbs (GK) created a little hand-made book for their two small boys to explain why Mike began to stay home. A story about real dog, one you may have met!  Bright little pictures of Mike and his world on lots of white space. One of the pleasures of this business if coming up these wonderful forgotten books: this one should be reprinted.
