"A Kindergarten magazine of story, song, and play National organization of "Child-Garden Mothers' League Conducted by Mrs Andrea Hofer Proudfoot." The first half of the monthly magazine provided reading, illustrations, photos, and music for children and some children's original writing, though certainly not on the level of St Nicholas. The second half contained reports from the Child-Garden Mother's Leagues, connected through the magazine with materials and encouragement provided by Mrs Proudfoot, "Every day brings her to this one conclusion, that most of the problems of the hour can be traced to inadequate motherhood." Based on Froebellian philosophy, learning through play, living in the natural world, expression through the arts, learning how to think, the Kindergarten movement began to take shape in the US in the 1850s The five accomplished and amazing Hofer sisters were instrumental in promoting Kindergardens For a curriculum very different from the modern public version, see "What we do in Kindergarten p 414" These are rare in any condition, from an old collection/.
