The friendship and advice of Mr. Jenkins the butcher help Ned as he sets out to take his Civil War hero father's place as the head of the family. Ned stood by his friend John Gray, when he was framed by boys who frequented the wicked oyster saloons. Happy ending and a surprisingly good read.
