Le livre de Bibiche.

Lyons: Les Edition J. Barbe, 1948; printed by Giraud-Rivoire 13 December, 1947, Lyons; blue oilcloth backed ivory paper flowered boards with large picture of Bibiche in the country on the front and her portrait on the back, endpapers with many small coloured pictures of this active little girl from the book, 24x35cm, 12x9.5" oblong; np. French language hardback oblong.

A note on the limited editions states that there were, among others, 200 numbered copies in "offset special" destined for sale and that only these constitute the first edition. In view of the size of the book and the depth of the offset colours, as well as the printer's 1947 statement ... perhaps this is a numbered copy without a number? At any rate, the many little paintings of Bibiche and her cousin François, each page being about six little scenes with script comments, are bright as jewels and give a full picture of a young girl's life in the late 40's. Each spread has a theme, including a wonderful croquet game and a disastrous sailing venture in a washtub.

CONDITION: Good Minus small inked name on title page, half of front hinge cracked, gauze holding; moderate soil to front board with clean picture and erased name above, spine faded at both ends for 1"; back board has large areas of unattractive moisture stain which are not carried through to endpapers or pages; endpapers and pages extremely clean, bright, unwrinkled, slight bow.
