Le Premier Livre de l'Enfance A. E. I. O. U. (AEIOU).
Paris: Editions Jules Tallandier, 7 Rue Dareau (xive), no date, c 1920's, glazed heavy card boards with a writing and reading rabbit and little dogs making the vowel sounds, a bear on the back; coloured pictures on every page; 18x26.5cm, 7.1x10.2"; np. French language softcover. medium.
A lighthearted approach to learning to read! Rabier-style cartoonish figures and a phrase for every letter "La Tortue a des habitudes Tranquilles". The alphabet is followed by a short group of accented and multisyllabic words and the book ends with a funny rabbit story, Jeannot l'etoudi. The Premier Livre assumes rather quick growth, but it must have been enjoyable for early readers.
