Ltd, 1909 to 1914, pinked edge/first published 1907; Dean's 2/6 patent Rag Books, Series 5; outside covers have babies examining a starfish on the beach, and on the back, babies whose balloons have floated to the sky; printed on doubled sheets of a very pale polka dotted calico more easily seen on the reverse side, 217x200mm, 6 colours, 16 pages. Little poems and pictures on each page: Fishing, Skipping, Having Tea, Hide and Seek. Note the cricket in this British book!"Sunbonnet Babies is one of the latest and cleverest of Dean's well-known rag books" The Stationer, Oct. 1908. The early 20th c Sunbonnet Baby craze resulted in about ten books and readers, as well china, Valentines and Christmas cards, postcards and porcelain figures, and this cloth book, which is scarce today. CONDITION: Very Good Plus; pencil gift inscription on front, no other marks, light soil to covers and stain across right hand baby's bonnet carrying to next page, some fraying to spine ends, otherwise very clean, unwashed, completely flat, with pinking crisp and stitching perfect. Item #19598
