When Mother Was a Little Girl.

London: Ernest Nister, New York: E. P. Dutton, [1909] fine patterned ivory brown and blue cloth boards with inset title in green, red, and gilt and oval portrait of a little girl in a pink bonnet; pale blue green endpapers, with darker silhouettes of children sledding, playing, in costumes and floral patterned background, 26 full and 7 half chromolitho pictures of children, including frontis, and on all facing pages a strand of blossoms, in same blue green, surrounding the poems; 7.5x9"; np. Picture Book Hardback.

Poems liberally illustrated, with the child subjects sometimes posed, at other times surprisingly spontaneous, including a poem about children pretending to be three bears in the grown-ups' heavy coats! Always in Nister's beautiful deepest colours. According to the Hunts, probably one of the last books Ernest Nister himself supervised before his death in 1909.

CONDITION: Very Good Plus, no names or other marks, very tight, hinges perfect, binding clean and bright, brilliant, clean pages, small bumps to top corners and spine ends, no other flaws. Item #20237
