What the Wind Told the Tree-Tops.

Putnam's Sons, The Knickerbocker Press 1888/co 1887, 1st tp; grey cloth with brown titles and graceful stamped picture in brown and gilt of the wind blowing through pines and birds flying before it; steel cut floral tan on white endpapers, engravings, 7x9"; 54 pp. Juvenile hardback.

The wind of each month has a story to tell. These poems and stories are written from a gentle Christian perspective (Brotherton was a liberal Unitarian) and contain nice little flashes of humor. Alice Williams Brotherton lived quietly in the Midwest all her life. She wrote numerous songs, hymns, and poems as well as 3 books; unfortunately this is her only children's book. Her poetry was published in Scribner's, The Atlantic, St. Nicholas, etc. and is anthologized today.
