Two robins that escaped the New England climate by wintering in Greenland and Brazil, a teaching story by a gentle mother, with imaginative touches. Followed by retellings of a Bible story and family stories: The Selfish Man, Very Decent, The Intelligent Kitten, Disobedient James, The Indian War-Whoop, A Visit to Bangor, (a true story of a visit by steamship in 1835), several elegies including one to a horse, and then The Canary Bird. Anna Fox (1816 - Aug. 17 1840), a New England native, wrote as a very young woman and this book was published posthumously.
CONDITION: Good Plus; missing free front endpaper, some erased gift inscription names can still be deciphered and the dates 1842 and 1846; tight and straight, very light foxing, top corners lightly bumped; 1/8" of spine cloth torn at foot; on page 114 a child has carefully filled in the o's in two sentences using India ink.
