/Ib Spang Olsen, illustrator.

Old Mother Hubbard and her Dog.

New York: Coward, McCann & Geoghegan, 1976/1974, (Swedish version by Lennart Helsing)/ 1805 (Sarah Catherine Martin or before) stated 1st American of the Swedish version; translated from the Swedish by Virginia Allen Jensen, printed in Denmark, yellow cloth boards, in blue jacket with Mother H. admiring her dogs, 8.4x11.2"; np. Picture Book hardback.

A huge and unflappable Mother Hubbard with a ratty fox fur keeps her little dachshund happy. Very funny illustrations! In the process of translating the old poem to Swedish and then Danish, new verses were required to keep the rhyme, then when this Swedish version was translated back into English, the same problem arose, along with the need to fit to the Ib Spang Olsen illustrations, all with the result that several of the verses differ from the original poem.
