Clindindin.
Calmann-Lévy Editeurs, Collection Pour nos enfants, 1937, grey cloth backed bright pink boards with little boy looking at his bear, and more toys on the back, illustrated endpapers, coloured illustrations throughout, 8x10.2"; np. French language hardback. medium.
Chonchon has had enough of his five year old owner's tantrums, and he heads out for a long walk! A sweet story, perhaps for parents, about a little boy's love for his bear. At the end he realizes that he will be six soon and his bear is not real. Hellé, who lead the way in modernist illustrations for children's books very early and who also created wooden toys, can make Chonchon change from a living friend to a discarded toy in just a few strokes. (Republished in 1947 by a different illustrator.).
