Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1939, stated 1st (true 1st) ;sand coloured cloth binding, blue green titles and large young camel; frontis and five plates in black ink and yellow ochre; in red brown jacket with white tittles and youn camel; 8vo; 96 pages. Juvenile hardback.

A young camel's dreamlike rite of passage, in which, under the watchful eye of the great white leader camel, his singleness of purpose and loyalty is tested by dangers of the great desert. How he finds the band of snow white camels which encircles the earth. This original version, which I remember from childhood as being quite frightening, was reconsidered and rewritten by Boyle for Harpers in 1959. The first children's book by an internationally known novel and short story writer and progressive activist.

CONDITION: Near Fine in Very Good jacket; no names, straight and clean; in darkening, clean jacket with very faded spine, 1" tear on spine crease and other rubs to about 3/8"; unclipped 2.00. Item #22548
