New York: McLoughlin Bros. 1888, heavy card boards ; a red cloth spine cover encases 6 heavy board "leaves", (not flat cut); linen strips hold each board to the next and to the covers, making 14 interior pages. alternate coloured and umber pages as with the linen book version; 8.5" x 10.5"x .75" Picture book hardback.
A rollicking interpretation with naughty little boys, and little girls who are not so blameless either! On one side the Pie Baker and the expanded poem, on the other bright chromos of children and the letters.. No alphabet pages. In the comic style of E. W. Kemble, unlike the nostalgic style of the McLoughlin 1897 Kris Kringle version. Not uncommon in linen, but quite a happy find in this board book version.
CONDITION: Good Plus, no names or marks, clean, corners very rubbed, bottom edge rubbed to card with rough edges along some pages, inner boards are cupped, not noticible on reading but creating 1/16" gap when viewed from top. Opens freely as designed. Item #22681
