London: Frederick Warne and Company, Bedford Street, Covent Garden, New York, Scribner, Welford and Company, (1867) nicely rebound in what looks like early 20th c with brown and tan marbled paper boards and endpapers and light brown suede spine with 6 slightly raised bands including head and foot and no printing, corner tips in dark brown, 72 not very intense chromolithos printed on the back but with opaque paper guards illustrate the stories; wide 8vo; no pages but there are more full coloured pictures that pages of text, about 110 pp? Juvenile Hardback.

"containing 72 pages of pictures printed in colours. with letter press descriptions" The lithos are probably by Dalziel as they printed the companion Nursery Gift.

An amazing number of pictures in full colour facing the text compiled by Sarah Baker who has multiple books to her credit over a long career for various publishers but usually Warne .. Traditional stories and rhymes: A Apple PIe, House that Jack Built, Cock Robin, Red Riding Hood, Little Totty, Cinderella, Royal Alphabet, Mother Hubbard, Domestic Animals, Nursery Rhymes, Nursery Songs, Nursery Ditties.The NY Public Library has one online with slightly different stories, the Osborne collection with the same. Scarce online but in quite a few university collections.

CONDITION: Good, no names or other marks, toned and/or evenly foxed throughout, occasional light soil, title page soiled with small margin tears, ow straight and tight with clean boards; was originally 2/6 (The Bookseller Oct 31 1866) thus an expensive book for the time. Item #22727
