The Ugly Duckling from My Hanky Library
My Hanky Library, (early 1940s?) full colour card with a white gosling and on front and graceful swan on the back, coloured illustrations inside with a slot containing a cotton handkerchief with a yellow duckling visible, two pages with text; 5.5 x 4"; somewhat shaped. Toploader little.
Here's an example of the toys made during the war when some materials were not available. A stiff folded card holding a handkerchief. Margot Voight illustrated novelty items for Samuel Lowe, McLoughlin, and Whitman in the late 30s and early 40's. she appears to have created the hankerchief as well but it is so perfectly folded we didn't want to remove it. Hard to find these Hanky Cards in this condition.
