The Travels of Mr. Trot

New York: The Vanguard Press, 1941, 1st, nap; blue boards with red drawing of the family and the van, 8vo; 140 pp. Juvenile hardback.

A uniquely charming book about an Englishman, William Wilberforce Trot, a single father whose specialty is cleaning houses, and his well brought up children, Millie, Willie, and Lillie. They travel across the county to find a new home near the ocean in southern California.. Well written, almost a fantasy, but with very realistic children ... wherever the Trots pass they help out the local community and win the friendship of the people they meet. Apparently the author's only book, except perhaps for a manual on Siamese Cats.
SIGNED with a gift inscription by William L. Thatcher, who assisted his brother in founding the famous Thatcher School in Ojai, California. (the recipient, a teacher, had made the trek to San Luis Opispo at five months in a cradle hanging from the ceiling of a 1928 Ford, so she must have loved this book.).

CONDITION: Good without jacket; extremities bumped and rubbed, spine almost illegible and picture on board faint, interior clean and fairly tight, little bookstore sticker from Newbegin's in San Francisco on rear endpaper. Item #22885
