Faith, Hope, & Charity.

No place of publication, probably near Indianapolis, copyright Dec. 23, 1939, light card covers, the entire piece in the shape of a graceful drinking gourd with green leaves, photos of the three little girls included, 8 pages of textured heavier paper, the two sheets center stapled, a drawing on each spread of the three little girls with their photographed faces included in what appear to be handcoloured dressses (and gourd), 12. Toploader large.

The triplet sisters were first known by numbers 1, 2, & 3, instead of names. They and their parents waited faithfully for five years for the right names to come along. Then a stranger on the steps asked for water. Sisters 1 & 2 expressed sorrow that their well was broken, but " 'I am not sorry,' said the third sister, 'where there's a will there's a way.' Then she brought a gourd filled with water and gave it to the stranger.' " So she was Charity, " the greatest of these" Thus they were all named. Quite a charming and unusual book, probably self published, produced with care. The photographed triplets may be one child or three! The author (1909 - 2001) was a member of the Masonic Eastern Star and a Christian Scientist, and apparently wrote no other books. A combination of drawing and photography. Rare.

CONDITION: Very Good; no names, no creases, a few small scrapes to surface, see image, interior very bright and clean. Item #22982
